Last season I made quite a few F1 predictions on Twitter, including the obvious Vettel/Red Bull championship, I also predicted podiums for both Grosjean and Pérez and a first win for Rosberg, with a few stats to back up the claims. Now it's time for some predictions on the 2013 season.

My 2013 F1 Predictions

Last season I made quite a few F1 predictions on Twitter, including the obvious Vettel/Red Bull championship, I also predicted podiums for both Grosjean and Pérez and a first win for Rosberg, with a few stats to back up the claims. Now it’s time for some predictions on the 2013 season.

My first prediction is that Nico Hülkenberg will win a race in 2013, making him the 8th German driver to win an F1 race and the 6th with at least one win, pole and fastest lap. The second prediction is for Force India to finish below Williams and MAYBE Toro Rosso in the Constructors’ Championship, so either 8th or 9th for them.

The third prediction involves both of the GP3 Champions on the 2013 grid, Esteban Gutiérrez and Valtteri Bottas, a podium for Gutiérrez and possibly one for Bottas too. Next prediction, either a win or a pole for Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes, but only the one.

As for the championship predictions, in the Constructors’ I can’t see anyone but Red Bull winning, however in the Drivers’ Championship I think Alonso might just do it, but I’ll probably be wrong and we’ll see Vettel win a fourth, almost definitely one of those two anyway.

One last prediction, and the one I’m not too sure about, no poles for McLaren. Neither Jenson Button nor Sergio Pérez are great over a single lap so I can’t see it happening unless the McLaren is incredibly dominant.

That’s it for this year’s predictions, hopefully at least a few will be right. If you’re taking part in the Badger Fantasy GP this year and think you can predict better, why not join my friends league? The name is Stat League and the passcode FfAh0P.

  1. I agree on all except the no poles for mclaren. Button will get at least one pole, if the car set-up is perfect for him he will put it together.

    • Well it’s the one I’m least sure about, almost didn’t put it in. The stats are against Button, but then again McLaren had four 1-2s in qualifying last year, so without Hamilton there they would be poles for Button. You’re probably right.

  2. I am sure you are wrong about Force India! They have a tried and tested line up and are sure to finish sixth. The STRs are slow and both Williams and Sauber have a rookie each. Sutil and Di Resta are the strongest pairing in the midfield.

  3. i totally agree with most of it, but not hamilton, i firmly believe lewi will be mixing it with vettel and alonso this year, in my opinion he is the quickest driver over one lap and he is no dummy when it comes to race strategy either, i say lewis will be in the top 3 and can definitely qualify on pole at least 3 times, starting at melbourn while the merc seems to have some sort of pace, based only on testing data.

    • I think you’re probably right about Mercedes/Hamilton, they looked pretty quick in testing and I did write this after just 4/5 days of testing. Since then they have really surprised me on pace and reliability, Hamilton could finish the season in the top three with a bit of luck.
