Pre-season testing is finally over, I’m completely ignoring all actual times as they’re pretty much irrelevant. Laps and total distance is what I’ve been looking at, gives some idea of car reliability at least. The cars covered a total of 49947.273km during the 12 days of winter testing, that’s larger than the circumference of the Earth and almost 40% of the race distance of all cars in 2012.

Despite Mercedes only doing around 30 laps after the first two days of testing they have had impeccable reliability since then and would have done the most laps had they been able to run properly in those first two days. Sutil has done the least laps of any 2013 driver (Bianchi has 253 if you combine Force India and Marussia) which isn’t too surprising as he was only confirmed very late. Chilton has done the most actual days of testing because of Razia’s money troubles but still not even in the top 5 of total distance meaning that he has a very low average laps and distance.

Sauber and Mercedes have travelled the furthest, as you probably guessed after looking at the driver table. Lotus and Marussia have done the least, almost 2000km less than Sauber, a massive gap. Williams have done 665 laps and 3095km on their new 2013 car, not too bad for 8 days of driving.
