Sauber, not a good season for them at all, for the first time in their 20+ year history they have failed to score a single point.
No points does make it trickier as mentioned in my Caterham comparison, but there are still lots of other ways to compare the two.
Position | Driver | Race Finish | Started Ahead | Qualified Ahead | Faster Race Lap |
18 | Adrian Sutil | 5 | 12 | 10 | 9 |
20 | Esteban Gutierrez | 5 | 7 | 9 | 9 |
Both drivers have beaten the other exactly the same amount of times in the race, all retirements are removed so in the end we’re left with ten races with both drivers finishing. Exactly the same story with the fastest laps, nine each for both. Sutil retired on the first lap of the US GP so that is why it doesn’t add up to 19. In qualifying Sutil has a tiny lead but it looks like Gutierrez has more bad luck with penalties, very close.
Driver | Out of Q1 | Out of Q2 | Into Q3 |
Adrian Sutil | 7 | 11 | 1 |
Esteban Gutierrez | 7 | 12 | 0 |
Still very, very close between the two Sauber drivers, only a single Q3 for Sutil at COTA separates them.
Drivers | Best Four Finishes | Average Finish | Retirements | |||
Adrian Sutil | 11 | 11 | 13 | 13 | 14.7 | 7 |
Esteban Gutierrez | 12 | 13 | 14 | 14 | 15.2 | 6 |
Still not too much difference but Sutil has done a better job, two 11th place finishes and a slightly higher average finish, his experience has paid off. Gutierrez I’ve never really thought of very highly, but he’s actually done a decent job at Sauber.
Next up, Marussia.
