Another year of testing is over, there may have only been eight days of testing but the mileage was still incredibly high.
Over the eight days of testing the 11 teams totalled 8498 laps (39,558.190km) on the new cars, this count is not including the first test from Sauber where they used the 2015 car. The total distance tested last year with 2015 cars was 39,503.294km, so with four fewer days (but two more cars) the cars drove an extra 55km in 2016.
To put that distance into context, the Earth at the equator is 40,075km, so in eight days the combined distance is almost once around the planet. Mercedes for the third year in a row have completed the most distance in testing with 6018.915km, Sauber completed the least with 1889.930km, but they did only do four days of testing in their 2016 car.
Every team bar Haas and Manor averaged at least one race distance (305km) per day, Haas averaged 275.809km and Manor averaged 281.628km. At the other end Mercedes averaged over two race distances per day and averaged at 752.364km, Toro Rosso were some way behind and averaged 610.387km.
