2015 Malaysian GP Post-Race Stats

What a race that was! A bit of a shame that Will Stevens couldn’t take part in qualifying or start the race, but Roberto Merhi’s Manor finished the race! Oh and some German bloke named Vettel won?

Vettel got an early advantage over the two Mercedes by not pitting when the safety car came out, hard to say for sure if he’d have won the race without that, but he’d almost definitely have been fighting for the lead and Mercedes know it.

After 56 laps, Vettel won, Hamilton eight seconds behind in second place and Rosberg a further 12 seconds down in third. After a tricky start and early puncture Raikkonen recovered to fourth, helped a lot by the safety car, but you have to wonder where he’d have finished without that, a podium? Ferrari 1-2? The fastest lap of the race went to Nico Rosberg, a full second quicker than anyone else, but as both Vettel and Hamilton were on the harder tyre in their final stint and Rosberg the medium, it’s not too much of a surprise.

Max Verstappen picked up his first F1 points, becoming the youngest ever point scorer in F1 by over two years, and now that the FIA have changed the age rules for a superlicence it’s unlikely to ever be beaten. Both Toro Rosso cars finished ahead of both Red Bulls, but that’s clearly just because of the poor Renault engines… McLaren and Honda are unsurprisingly still suffering with reliability, a double retirement with both drivers retiring with power unit problems.
